    Darjeeling and Bhutan


    Sikkim, this small state surrounded by Tibet, Nepal, and Bhutan is, due to its isolation, a state preserved from tourism. Sikkim and Bhutan are similar in terms of climate, but there is a significant difference culturally. During this trip to Sikkim, it takes you to discover the kingdom of tea: Darjeeling, where you will also see splendid panoramas of the highest peaks in the world, including Kanchenjunga. In Bhutan, you will have lovely encounters with always-smiling locals, discover traditional villages among terraced fields. Bhutan, also known as the "Land of the Thunder Dragon," is one of the most unusual and spectacular destinations on the planet. 


    Detailed Programme


    Day 1: Kolkata - Bagdogra - Darjeeling

    You take a flight from Kolkata to Bagdogra. Upon arriving in Bagdogra, transfer directly to Darjeeling. Darjeeling is the hill station in Bengal established by the British during the British Raj.Installez vous à l'hôtel 

    Day 2: Darjeeling

    In the morning, enjoy a ride on the toy train to Ghum, where you will visit the famous Ghum Monastery of the Black Hat sect, dating back to 1875. Visit the Thupten Sanga Chowling Monastery, followed by the gardens and tea factories. In the afternoon, visit the craft centre for Tibetan refugees and the Mall area with its shops. Overnight at the hotel.

    Day 3: Trip to Tiger Hill

    Early in the morning, departure by car to admire the sunrise over Tiger Hill, located at 2590 metres. From there, the view is stunning over Kangchenjunga, "the great treasure of the snows, with its five peaks." If the weather is clear, you can also see Everest from here. Return to the hotel for breakfast. In the afternoon, visit a tea plantation.

    Day 4: Darjeeling - Gangtok


    Route to Gangtok, the capital of Sikkim since the mid-19th century. Upon arriving in Gangtok, check into the hotel for 2 nights and then visit the most interesting monuments: the Tsuk-la-khang and the royal chapel. In the evening, free time to stroll around the local markets.

    Day 5: Gangtok


    Morning visit to the splendid Rumtek monastery, a seat of the Karmapa (Karmapa Lama) in exile in India since the invasion of Tibet by China. The monastery features Tibetan architecture. Then, visit the Enchay monastery, which has a spectacular view of the city. Depending on the weather, you may take an excursion to Bakthang Waterfall.

    Day 6: Gangtok - Kalimpong

    Route to Kalimpong, this sleepy little town located at 1,200 metres above sea level. Arrival in Kalimpong and check into a hotel for one night. Then visit the Zong Dog Palri Fo-Brang monastery at 1,732 metres, built on Durpin Hill. It was consecrated by the Dalai Lama in 1976. On the top floor, there is a splendid 360° view of the entire region: Kangchenjunga (the 3rd highest peak in the world), the Relli, the Testa, and, if the sky is clear, the plains of Assam. Continue your visit to the Bhutanese Thongsa monastery, built in the 19th century. Then, discover the Krishna Mangal Dham temple, right next to the Bhutanese monastery.

    Day 7: Kalimpong - Phuentsholing (In Bhutan)


    Today you will take the road to Phuntsoling in Bhutan. After your arrival in Bhutan, the visa formalities and baggage collection, you will be welcomed by our representative who will be your guide throughout your stay in Bhutan. Phuentsoling is located on the bank of the Tosar River. Settle into your hotel and then visit the Zangdo Pelri monastery with your guide.

    Day 8: Phuentsholing - Thimphu (Thimphou)

    After breakfast, you take the northern road of Bhutan towards Thimphu, enjoying the scenery of Bhutan along the way. Once you arrive in Thimphu, settle into your hotel. Depending on your free time in the afternoon, you may visit the National Memorial, built by the third king of Bhutan, His Majesty Jigme Dorji Wangchuck, also known as the "father of modern Bhutan".


    Day 9: Visit to Thimphu

    After breakfast, you will go to the following places with the guide:

    In the morning, you start with the Kuensel Phodrang, or Buddha Point, which houses the largest seated Buddha statue in the world, standing at 51 metres (167 feet). It is located at the top of a hill overlooking the city of Thimphu. Next, the Simtokha Dzong ("Palace of the Profound Meaning of Secret Mantras") is a small dzong. It was built in 1629 by Zhabdrung Ngawang Namgyal, who unified Bhutan. It is the first dzong of its kind built in Bhutan. Visit the Tashichho Dzong, a fortified Buddhist monastery located on the northern outskirts of Thimphu, the capital of Bhutan. Then, the Motithang Takin Reserve. The Motithang Takin Reserve is a small nature reserve dedicated to the takin, the national animal of Bhutan.


    Day 10: Thimphu - Punakha

    After breakfast, depart for Punakha via the Dochula Pass (3,100 m), with a stop for tea, where, on a clear day, you will enjoy a stunning view of the Himalayan range. Continue on to Punakha. Next, you will visit the Punakha Dzong, also known as Pungtang Dechen Phortang Dzong, which stands at the confluence of the Mo Chhu and Po Chhu rivers, which together form the Puna Tsang Chu, a tributary of the mighty Brahmaputra. The dzong was built in 1638 by Zhabdrung Ngawang Namgyal Wangchuck, at the exact spot prophesied by Guru Rinpoche about 800 years earlier.
